“I am proud of what we have accomplished to protect our most valuable natural resources, but much more still needs to be done. I look forward to working with the Riverhead Foundation to ensure a healthy environment for both today’s New Yorkers and future generations,” avowed Assemblyman Robert Sweeney at the 8th Annual Oceans of Hope held at Atlantis Marine World to benefit the New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program operated by the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation.
To an enthusiastic crowd, Assemblyman Sweeney presented Robert DiGiovanni, Jr., Foundation Director/Senior Biologist with a much needed $100,000 check to support the Riverhead Foundation’s efforts to continue preserving and protecting our marine environment. “Assemblyman Sweeney has worked diligently to protect our most valuable natural resources and ensure a healthy environment and we thank him allocating much needed funds to support the continuing efforts of the Riverhead Foundation,” stated Robert DiGiovanni, Jr. in his recognition speech of the check.
Each year the Riverhead Foundation responds to more than 200 marine mammals and sea turtles. The 8th Annual Oceans of Hope fundraiser celebrates and supports the preservation and protection of our ocean backyard. Funds raised from the event help the Riverhead Foundation continue its efforts to rescue marine mammals and sea turtles and educate the public about how they can help save our oceans. The Riverhead Foundation is also dedicated to educating and training the public to be our eyes and ears because we can’t do this alone. The Riverhead Foundation currently has seven sea turtles and twelve seals in our hospital! You can save a marine mammal or sea turtle by calling (631) 369-9840 and donating today.
