Harbor Porpoise Flies to New York for Care

The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation is expecting a new patient...a harbor porpoise today at approximately 1:30 pm. The harbor porpoise will be flown into Gabrieski Airport in Westhampton, New York by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Community support is vital to the success of operating this rescue.

The young male is estimated to be about a year old and weighs about 45 pounds. This porpoise was rescued on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, from the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Prognosis for the porpoise is listed as critical pending results from laboratory tests and physical examination after his arrival to the Riverhead Foundation’s hospital facility. Contact the Riverhead Foundation for updates on the porpoise, B-roll video footage and to schedule an interview with Robert DiGiovanni, Jr.
